A Few Words About Us |
 |
I started Dedicated Management Services in 1996 to handle the accounting needs of our parent corporation
Dedicated Software Developers, Inc.
Up until 2008, I traveled all over the United States working on large Information Technology projects. I used to say that the country was my playground,
while San Dimas, CA was my home.
As a traveling consultant, I held a full-time job as a Software Business Analyst in both the Human Resources and Financial areas of business. As the economy changed, I changed too. I don't travel on business as much as I use too. Now I am putting my
professional skills to work serving communities and businesses closer to home.
The most important thing I learned in all my years in business is to take your time when choosing a company to work with you.
This is a critical decision and it should not be rushed. Make sure the prospective company provide the kind of TLC and customer service that will
really make a difference in your business. |

Make it a practice to reach out to other small businesses whenever possible. Think about the impact you could have on
some other small business owners life. Just because a service is low cost it doesn't always mean your getting the best money can buy.
Information Technology
Computers are a vital part of any business. They make are jobs easier. They make communicating with other businesses
more efficient and they make communicating with our customers fun and exciting. Without computer software, none of this
would be possible. If you are like a lot of people, Microsoft products are not the way to go. Even though they offer a variety
of products that can be helpful to your business, the stability of their software, as well as constant operating system changes,
are not always conducive to running an efficient business. I don't like having to upgrade our operating system from Windows XP to
Windows Vista every couple of years, not to mention buying a whole new computer system. If you are like me, then consider the following
options.
Open Source software products are making a lot of headway in a number of areas. Designed to be free, shareable, and stable, the home
or business user can find a number of software products that are just as good as what some of the more popular software vendors. You
can find anything from Open Office, a viable replacement for Microsoft Office products, to accounting software and more. Depending on
the type of your machine, open source software can be found to run on a MAC or PC. A lot of the software you will find also runs on
a Linux operating system, which is a viable replacement for what Microsoft has to offer.
So, before you go out and make that next
software product purchase, take a minute to do a little research into what open source software products are available. Or just see
my OpenSource web page for some starter links to view.
Accounting
The days of an accountant spending time at the end of the year combing through the ledgers are long gone. Even the smallest
business has some form of accounting software to make life easier and to create efficiency for the finances of a company.
The market is saturated with accounting software packages, and the choices can seem limitless. Unfortunately, searching for
the right accounting software can take a chunk out of your budget. Consider the following tips.
First, make a list of needs that your accounting software will have
to fulfill. This will require a good look at your business to discover
the functionality you will need. At the most basic level your accounting
software package should be able to meet the tax reporting needs
of your business, and payroll information and invoicing. Second,
if you will want to do any electronic transactions with your vendors,
then you will need to make sure the software can s upport this requirement.
Be careful when doing anything over the Internet. A secure conenction
is very important. Finally, think about expandability of your business
and software users. A number of the software products available
run on a desktop - MAC or PC. And there can be one or two unique
users accessing the software simaltaneously.
So investing a litle time at the front end of your purchase can
save you a lot of money in the long run. Take the time to think
about what you are looking and make a list of all your requirements.
If you are having trouble, turn to the Internet for research information.
If you still feel overwhelmed, then give us a call and we can help
you sort through the mounds of information.

Take a minute to give us a call.
You will be surprised at how much we have to offer.
For me volunteering is the perfect conduit for exercising old skills or testing out a newly acquired talent.
I love the idea of reaching out to communities that are working to help others.
When I watch people around me, I can identify leadership qualities that I most appreciate and want to instill in my life.
Volunteer groups are often groups of peers that respond more to leadership than management. I love the volunteer settings because it allows
me to practice my strategic thinking and conflict resolution skills. I always learn something new about the community I am working
with, and about the potential networking resources--all of which help me expand my client base.
If you want more insight into volunteering, give me a call and we can talk about it. If you have some time, check out web sites shown below. There is a lot of good information on the web that can help you learn more about volunteering. And remember - some volunteering can be tax deductible!
